A quiet Saturday night in Monmouth, after a week of big events. I’m beyond honored & humbled to be running for Mayor of Monmouth.

I’m new to politics, this isn’t something I’d imagined I’d be doing.

But I’m thrilled about it & believe it’s the right thing to be doing at just this time.

I’m a Christian. Please don’t let that scare or worry you. It’s a good thing. Among other things, it means I have no misconceptions that I’m the most important person in the world. It means I know I’m not perfect. It means I know I’m a simple, yet complex human being, and it means I love others.

I’m not doing this for me - I was pretty content being quite a private person, finally retired & able to have time to do what I enjoy. I have no personal agendas in becoming Mayor.

But I’ve been moved to do this - our small town, our state, our country need people to stop sitting on their hands, yapping from the sidelines, to gather their courage & voice & get involved for the greater good.

That’s what I’m doing. Our town is in need of a new voice or two (or 3 or 4) - who, I believe, will represent the quiet majority of us who care about keeping Monmouth small, caring about our roots and our future - with respect for voices who not only agree, but disagree - treating both with respect. We can’t just shut down those who have a different view.

I promise you I care deeply for our community & those who have been silenced, and perhaps discouraged, at what they’re seeing. I care about our local businesses, the town’s relationship with them. I’m going to talk with & listen to you, not just before, but after Election Day.

Our elected officials are public servants - it’s in the name - serve the public. I have a few ideas for doing this - stay tuned to find out what they are & let me know what you think.

I believe most people have great intentions when they run for office - but I also believe in term limits. Since there aren’t any in City Council positions - voters decide when time’s up.

It’s time, Monmouth, for the baton to be passed. I’d be honored to accept that baton & run this next leg of the race for you.

So make sure you’re registered to vote and when ballots drop in just a few weeks - fill in that little circle beside my name - Belinda Strouth. I will do my very best for you.
